IP V4 Router Virtual Appliance at Torrents Tracker on ITStuff.ca
Thursday, 09 July 2009 08:40
I'm happy to let everybody know about a new extention at ITstuff.ca.
Today I installed and configured our own Tracker Server, so from now I can distribute a big applications, tools or programs by using BitTorrent.

As a first example, I'd like to show you a Virtual Appliance that I've build. This is a VMWARE appliance with WinPE 3.0 installed and configured as IP v4 Router.

All Virtualization specialist, who even ones worked with multiple vLans / Networks know about very nice soft router, Vyatta.

But, you don't need to buy cow if you would like to drink a glass of milk :). This is a reason why I've decided to build really simple router. IP V4 Router Virtual Appliance doesn't requesting any configuration. Just turn it all and you will get routing between all network cards. Yes, this is so simple :)...

Here is a link to IP V4 Router Virtual Appliance torrent file.

Get your applications virtualized on Windows 7 Beta with Microsoft App-V
Saturday, 28 February 2009 08:23
Today I’d like to share with you the immediate availability of Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) for use with the Windows 7 Beta and more roadmap information around App-V 4.6.We’ve been listening to customers who want to see us support Windows 7 early so they can move ahead with their application testing in preparation for their enterprise deployments. Today, we are pleased to announce the immediate availability of App-V 4.5 CU1 for the Windows 7 Beta.  As you know, we have a high bar for application compatibility between Windows Vista and Windows 7, so you might be wondering why we need an update of App-V specific to Windows 7.  Application virtualization is in a small class of applications that have very deep interactions specific to a Windows release – in App-V’s case it is redirecting the registry, file-system and component calls.  So as we update Windows, we will continue to require new versions of App-V.

All subscribers of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) can register to download the update from Microsoft Connect and get ahead on their Windows 7 planning right now.   Through MDOP, our goal is to continuously offer technology and updates to our enterprise customers.  When Windows 7 releases, we are committed to supporting the final product within 90 days of general availability.  App-V 4.5 CU1 also contains a small number of improvements such as instant access or removal of applications assigned to end users.....

How to Enable Windows Server Backup Support for the Hyper-V VSS Writer
Tuesday, 30 December 2008 14:11

To be able use VSS based backups of Hyper-V VMs using Windows Server Backup, we need to add the following registry keys to register the Hyper-V VSS Writer with Windows Server Backup. WindowsServerBackup key is not created when we install the Windows Server Backup feature. We have to create this key manually.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT
\CurrentVersion\WindowsServerBackup\Application Support\{66841CD4-6DED-4F4B-8F17-FD23F8DDC3DE}

When the keys listed above created, we also need to create a String Value with the following parameters / settings:

Name: Application Identifier
Type: REG_SZ
Value: Hyper-V

When backing up virtual machines, we must select all volumes where VM related files is present, because Windows Server Backup only supports volume based backups.

For more information about Hyper-V virtual machine backups, take a look on the KB958662.

Hyper-V Remote Management Configuration Utility
Thursday, 25 December 2008 11:17
HVRemote reduces the manual configuration steps needed for Hyper-V Remote Management down to one or two commands.

It can configure Full installations and Server Core Installations of Windows Server 2008 with the Hyper-V role enabled, plus configure Microsoft Hyper-V Server. It runs across all locales (I've tested English and Japanese) and it doesn't matter if the server is domain or workgroup joined.

It can configure Vista SP1 and Server 2008 configured with the Hyper-V Remote Management tools. Again, doesn't matter if the client is domain or workgroup joined.

Basic commands (see documentation for more information)

To grant or remove a user access permissions:

  • hvremote /add:domain\user or
  • hvremote /remove:domain\user

To display current settings: hvremote /show
Get some help: hvremote /?
Add firewall exception for MMC: hvremote /mmc:enable (Client Option)
Allow anonymous access to Distributed COM: hvremote /AnonDCOM:grant (Client Option)

Download HVRemote @ Source
